ABOUT ME

My name is Stephanie Ferri and I work at The Archer School for Girls in Los Angeles, California. My primary role is being a fitness and wellness teacher to grades 7, 8, 9, and 10. I am the head swim coach for both the middle and upper school program. In addition, I am the Director of Outdoor Education. I am also a certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and certified personal trainer. I graduated in 2006 from The University of Rhode Island with a degree in Kinesiology and a Rhode Island teaching credential for grades K-12 and Adaptive Physical Education (APE). Professional Philosophy

I believe in making physical fitness and health education fun and attainable to everyone.  I also believe the road to physical fitness and health is one that should be paved early in life.  It is my mission as a fitness and wellness teacher to provide a comprehensive fitness curriculum that builds confidence and motivates young poeple to be active for a lifetime.

Professional Experience

The Archer School for Girls, Los Angeles, CA                                                 August 2007– present

Fitness and Wellness teacher grades 6-10:

  • Taught comprehensive lessons in traditional and non-traditional team sports

  • Collaborated with a team to design and teach a comprehensive health and wellness curriculum

  • Developed and led a strength and conditioning program for fitness classes

  • Designed student fitness assessment program including: self-evaluations & portfolios to track goals, growth, and outcomes

  • Developed an innovative fitness and wellness curriculum using research-based practices

Head Coach - Swimming

  • Led a competitive swim program for Archer school athletes

  • Managed all aspects of the team including schedule and training

  • Coached Archer teams to 5 league championships (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015)

Director of Outdoor Education

  • Coordinated, promoted, and facilitated Archer’s partnership with the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) to develop a week-long leadership backpacking program

  • Organized community involvement, parent education, and professional development around the NOLS leadership curriculum and value of outdoor education

  • Integrated elements of the NOLS leadership program across Archer’s curriculum
